This study describes how a visual analog scale could improve the accuracy of speech production analysis.

Let’s say you have a student with a speech sound disorder that you know is making progress but the data is not reflecting that progress. Those sound productions are getting closer but they aren’t perfect yet. How do you record this small but not quite perfect progression? There are a few ways… you can either use a more narrow phonetic transcription (if you know how) or you could try a visual analog scale (VAS) to help differentiate the not-quite-perfect-but-getting-closer productions.
